As it stands, more and more big-name streamers are against it though, it may be only a matter of time before Twitch has no choice but to respond to the drama this has caused. xQc gives a scathing attack on the popular Hot Tub trend The hot tub trend recently got very popular on Twitch, with countless streamers using this meta for their streams. Soon enough, the Twitch meta will shift, and something new will come around. It’s not against the rules, so just let them have it. If that’s what someone is watching, it’s clear they aren’t interested in someone’s Fortnite stream, or Warzone footage. On my personal Twitter feed, the argument against hot tub streams is all people screaming about how these girls (and now also guys) are taking viewers from their streams, to go watch a girl in a bikini, in a hot tub or pool. Perhaps if we filtered for top-viewed streams, that might change. Personally, this writer has never seen a hot tub stream on the frontpage like xQc has. With his previous statement, it’s hard to determine which he feels stronger about. We’ve spoken about him here on Esports Talk for any number of things, such as being banned on Rust servers, NoPixel, et cetera. Many readers may be most familiar with xQc as a result of the various drama-filled situations he finds himself in the middle of. This is a pretty interesting situation, to be honest. Some streamers have argued that racier Twitch streams create a harmful precedent, and that fans may start harassing other content creators they dub attractive. It only happened once streamers started getting in trouble so they found away around it. According to the Tweet in question, the hot tub streams were on the frontpage of Twitch, and xQc was less than pleased: Do you really expect and want them to clothe more on purpose? to get less success on purpose because you’re mad they have an advantage that you don’t have? That’s just weird. “If a girl just likes some types of clothing and they like their own body and not even in a super-sexual way… to attract more viewers. In March, xQc defended these kinds of streams, saying there’s nothing wrong with women using whatever advantage they have to pull people in.
It’s interesting though, considering what he had to say about women on Twitch just last month. It's a relief that people are finally talking about it, but it's also telling that this is the moment all hands are on deck.This “hot tub” on Twitch is being slammed by xQc, and other major streamers across Twitch and Twitter. While the hot tub and fart metas were mostly harmless ( though not above critique), gambling streams where creators get cutbacks and have a captive, parasocial audience have a clear potential for huge harm. A year later, in July 2022, I wrote about them again as the gambling streams changed from worryingly popular segments by a handful of streamers into a bona fide meta. Back in July 2021, I reported on the gambling streams when Adin Ross claimed to make $2 million a month from them, and signalled them out as a much larger problem than the hot tub and fart streaming categories that were the talk of Twitch around the same time. Since then, things have only gotten more convoluted, but it's worth remembering how we got here. This came to a head over the weekend when former Team Liquid member ItsSliker admitted to scamming over $200,000 from his followers to fund his gambling addiction. Right now, the biggest story on Twitch revolves around gambling.
